2017 Water Leaders Class
Devon Buckels is a civic-minded Denver native. She has public, private and non-profit sector experience working for healthy and sustainable communities, highlighting the relationship between the built environment and public and ecological health. She has a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Colorado at Denver, and a Certification in Sustainability Leadership and Implementation from the Daniels College of Business.
Professional experience includes community and land use planning, infrastructure financing, development facilitation, alternative transportation planning, historic preservation planning, civic engagement, organizational and process improvement, strategic planning and creation of strategic partnerships for funding. She has also worked to assist communities and businesses to realize financial and economic benefits through sustainability actions. Recent experience includes leading a regional consortium of 40 organizations focused on watershed protection, water awareness, and water quality improvements in the South Platte River Watershed. Project experience includes managing a series of river corridor plans, working in partnership with The Greenway Foundation. Devon is now the Director of The Water Connection, the policy and water resources arm of The Greenway Foundation.
