2017 Rain Barrel Workshop- Connecting Colorado to Water

Registration is closed for this event

Last year it became legal to collect water from your gutters to water your lawn, garden, and flowers on your own property. Since then, rain barrels have been all the rage, and Colorado residents are all getting excited about this new way to garden and save on their water bill at the same time!

The Colorado Foundation for Water Education is partnering with River Network, MillerCoors, and Blue Moon Brewing Company to host a Rain Barrel Workshop where participants will actually build their own rain barrel and get to take it home with them! Rain barrels can cost hundreds of dollars to purchase in a store, and that doesn’t even come with the satisfaction of making it yourself.

For only $40.00 per barrel, you and your family can come make one of your own! Max five people per barrell and one per household please. We will have all of the tools and materials that you will need to start watering your lawn with rain water.

A couple things you need to know:

  • We are more than just fun - If you do not know how to use a rain barrel, or the benefits of having a rain barrel then no worries! We will have a short educational session for all participants on how rain barrels play a role in managing water in Colorado and how you can do your part to be a responsible water citizen.
  • Rain barrels are large - each rain barrel is a 55 gallon plastic barrel. You will need to have an appropriate vehicle, and any straps needed to contain the barrel for its ride home at the end of the evening.
  • We have the tools - you will not need to bring any power tools with you. If you have a favorite pair of safety glasses or gloves, please bring those along with you. Otherwise we will provide those items while using the tools.
  • Safety first - While we intend to have a good time at this event, alcohol can’t be consumed while operating the power tools. Blue Moon Brewing Company has graciously donated your first drink on them after your completion of your new Rain Barrel.

We will begin building rain barrels at 4:30, but come at anytime to share in the fun and celebrate being awesome water citizens. We have a private room till 7:00  and will provide light appetizers, but the brewery is open for dinner and drinks during and after that time. We will have a raffle at 7:00. All participants recieve one free ticket, with an option to purchase additional tickets. *Note: If you are not at the workshop to claim your rain barrel by 5:00, then your barrel will be given away with no refund.

Cost: $40 per Rain Barrel (You can come as a family and all work on one barrel, if you wish to make more than one barrel, you must pay for multiple barrels)

$20 per Water Friend- If you want to come and enjoy some drinks and appetizers you are welcome to join the fun. We are asking for a $20 to help cover appetizers. All Water Friends will also recieve a raffle ticket for an opportunity to win a GOPro Hero 4 and other awesome prizes. All funds raised are to support our programming at the Colorado Foundation for Water Educaiton.
