Reaching the Right People; How Targeted Outreach Creates Water-Informed Communities

Hosted by the Colorado Foundation for Water Education, supported by other presenters

Every year CFWE host a workshop prior to the Sustaining Colorado's Watersheds Conference designed  for our Water Educator Network members and other outreach professionals who are engaged in water education in Colorado. As an educator, often one of our biggest challenges is reaching our targeted audiences, and even more challenging, once we have reached them, how do we manage those relationships to reach our goals? Our workshop this year was created with those challenges in mind.

Participants of this workshop will engage in a dialogue and receive training on how to best design, plan and reach target audiences with water-focused messages and information. We will hear about how the Fountain Creek Watershed District and the Greenway Fund came together in a collaborative outreach and education initiative to reach residents of the Fountain Creek watershed within the greater Arkansas River Basin. The team created a variety of outreach strategies and activities to achieve their goal and they will walk you through their process and present their impressive results. In addition to exploring this case study, the Colorado Foundation for Water Education will guide you through numerous activities on how to use the Fountain Creek model, along with other resources, to develop an outreach plan for your own community and target audience. While the example highlighted in this workshop will be looking at a large, watershed-scale audience, the lessons and skills presented are transferable to any audience and type of water education program.

Who should attend? Anyone doing formal or non-formal water education. We will provide time during the workshop for participants to learn from eachother and grow all of your connections to resources, people, programs, and new ideas.
